Rajasthan Tour Packages

Twelve routes out of Udaipur, from a half-day at Nathdwara to a twelve-day run through Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Bikaner and Jaipur. Car, chauffeur, fuel and tolls included.

Overview

Rajasthan is best seen from a car, in the right order.

The state is enormous and the good bits are spread across it. Udaipur to Jaisalmer is 490 kilometres. Jaipur is nearly 400. What joins them is not the destinations but the driving — the Aravalli crossings, the road through Pali where the landscape dries out, the last two hours into Jaisalmer where the sand finally takes over.

Our packages are built around that driving. We know which stretches are worth doing in daylight, where the sensible lunch stops are, and how long a fort actually takes once you have climbed it. The result is an itinerary where you arrive in time to see things rather than in time to check in.

Every package includes the vehicle, a chauffeur who stays with you throughout, fuel, tolls and parking. Hotels, guides and entry fees are optional. And every one of them can be lengthened, shortened, reversed or combined — most of the trips we actually run are hybrids of two of these.

Building a Rajasthan itinerary that works

The commonest mistake is trying to see too much. Rajasthan looks compact on a map and is not: a week spent on Udaipur, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer is a genuinely good holiday, while the same week stretched to include Jaipur, Pushkar and Bikaner is four days of driving with monuments attached. We will say so when you send us a plan that is too ambitious, which occasionally costs us a booking and has never cost us a returning guest.

The three circuits that work best from Udaipur

  • Mewar, 3–4 days — Udaipur, Nathdwara, Eklingji, Kumbhalgarh, Ranakpur and Haldighati. Short drives, dense history, no long highway days.
  • Blue and Golden, 6–7 days — Udaipur to Jodhpur via Ranakpur, then Jaisalmer for the fort and the dunes, back via Pali or onward to Bikaner.
  • The full run, 10–12 days — Udaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Jaipur, Pushkar and out through Agra. This is the one that genuinely needs a car.

Where the car earns its keep

Ranakpur, Kumbhalgarh, Jawai, Haldighati, Osian and Khimsar have no useful rail connection. The desert stretch beyond Jodhpur is hours of nothing punctuated by things worth stopping for. And the single best hour of a Rajasthan trip is often an unplanned one — a stepwell somebody points out, a village fair, a ridge with a view — which a train timetable cannot accommodate.

Season

October to March across the whole state. The desert is unbearable from April to June and the forts offer no shade. The monsoon is beautiful in the south — Udaipur, Kumbhalgarh, Jawai — and irrelevant in Jaisalmer, which barely gets any. December nights in the dunes drop close to freezing, which nobody warns visitors about; bring a jacket.

Frequently asked

For three or four days, the Mewar loop — Udaipur, Nathdwara, Kumbhalgarh, Ranakpur and Haldighati. For a week, Udaipur to Jodhpur to Jaisalmer. For ten to twelve days, add Bikaner, Jaipur, Pushkar and exit via Agra.

For the famous cities the train is fine. For Ranakpur, Kumbhalgarh, Jawai, Haldighati and Osian there is no useful rail link at all, and those are frequently the best parts of the trip.

Vehicle, chauffeur, fuel, tolls, state permits and parking. Hotels, monument entry, guides and safari fees are separate and optional — we will arrange them or you can book your own.

Most of the trips we actually run are combinations. Send the nights and the cities and we will build the route rather than forcing it into a listed package.

October to March. April to June is genuinely difficult in the desert. The monsoon is lovely in southern Rajasthan — Udaipur, Kumbhalgarh, Jawai — and barely registers in Jaisalmer. December nights in the dunes get close to freezing.

We can, across every price band, and we will tell you honestly which properties are worth the money. Equally, many guests book their own stay and take only the car. Either is fine; we have no stake in it.
